“I thought I would briefly describe to you my listening impressions with my new SE version of the MRE 220. It actually took me a while to figure it out, because the difference to the old MRE is clear.

The winner across all recordings was the stage or, more specifically, the depth. There is now “more space”, the instruments have literally got more space between each other. The difference is clear. In addition, the mids are finer or silkier, which is particularly noticeable with voices. I don't know what the often-quoted "tube charm" sounds like, but I can imagine it's going a bit more in that direction now. Jazz recordings in particular have a real intimacy. Very nice!

Overall it sounds more "real", although I didn't miss anything before.

I listened again very intensively last night: The MRE 220 SE is a real leap forward compared to the 220, not just another model number like with many other manufacturers, but a real, audible further development. I'm glad I did the upgrade and thank you again for the opportunity.“

Addendum:

"In November 2022, over a year ago, a dealer told me that he was expecting the new stereo power amplifier We came up with the plan to let the stereo power amplifier X compete against the MRE 220 SE.

I don't have to sugarcoat Octave devices, their qualities are well known. But I would like to share the result with you, and it corresponds to my absolutely objective conviction: 4:1 for the MRE 220 SE!

The first thing that was striking was that - contrary to what you always get in the relevant hi-fi magazines - the transistor power amplifier didn't get a bit more pressure out of the Gauder Berlina RC7 than my tube power amplifiers. I was most likely expecting the transistor to be ahead, both were tied (1:1). In terms of resolution, any well-received title conveyed that the MRE 220 SE was clearly in the lead (2:1). The advantage in terms of spatiality/stage was even more striking - in comparison, the But above all else: The X conveys the atmosphere of a vacuum, namely none at all. You might call this maximally neutral, or just completely irrelevant. Nothing tied to the music. I think high-enders are ultimately looking for emotions, I couldn't find any here: 4:1 for the 220 SE.

35,000 EUR for the X and therefore around 10 K above the MRE 220 SE (with SBBs it gets closer), I can't understand if a dealer doesn't advise his customer to use Octave in good conscience.

For me it was definitely the last test of a power amplifier; I arrived with the MRE 220 SE. If I were to think about a new amplifier again in this life, it would be called Jubilee.

You and your team build emotional mediators, that's a great art."
